Netflix has absolutely been killing it with their Untold series and in one of the latest episodes, disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy is in focus. The documentary revisits the illegal betting scandal that rocked the NBA and the sports world. Fans have always speculated about "the fix" being in when it comes to professional sports and refereeing but in this case, it was true and it cost Donaghy some years behind bars.

I previously recommended Olivier Assayas' cult classic Irma Vep. Now I've caught up with the new HBO Max miniseries by the same name, and can safely say it's a triumph. The miniseries retains the premise of the original — a non-French actor comes to Paris to star in a remake of the silent film-era serial Les Vampires — but it broadens and deepens the world with richer characterizations, fascinating digressions, and more intoxicating detail about French cinema behind the scenes. While this may sound a bit fuddy duddy or artsy, it's not. It crackles with humor, sex, and intrigue, and in its own way, feels as ground-breaking as the 1996 film. 

I'm on a Real Housewives journey. I knew almost nothing about the shows except the names and faces that would show up in pop culture all over the place, but thanks to a friend and some time on my hands, I started going back and jumping around old episodes of the The Real Housewives of New York. I don't know why the cattiness and heightened melodrama has dug their claws in me so fiercely, but they did. Now, I'm understanding that this 12th(??) season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has reached new levels of chaos, and I guess I am here for it. Going to dip into the wild world of wealth, privilege, and snarky behind-the-back comments some more.

In the spirit of Apple’s Far Out event on Wednesday, I figured I’d share my favorite “far-out” throwback film, The Brady Bunch Movie. My parents are children of the '70s, and of course, they gave me the gift of the original Brady Bunch show on DVD. Luckily, I was born in the late '90s — the era of parody movies. This 1995 comedy posed the question: what would happen if we took the Brady Bunch as is, bell bottoms and all, and threw them into the 1990s, and yes it is absolutely hilarious. For better or worse, this is definitely another movie that has shaped my love of goofy comedy.

The queen of angsty teens has joined the streaming era (against her will, I'm sure), but us old-school MTV fans are happy to reconnect with Daria on Paramount+. It's strange to think that when the animated series debuted on MTV more than two decades ago, the protagonist likely would have identified with her Gen X peers, but if you do the math now … she may have been the first of the millennials. But don't tell that to her combat boots-wearing, drolly humorous, and artsy best friend Jane.
