It's the story of a New York City doctor whose seemingly-great life comes crumbling down around him. His ex-wife disappears, not in a case of murder and crime, but in a story of complicated relationships and the messiness of day-to-day life (and maybe, probably, mid-life crises). Toby Fleishman is forced to come to grips with reality when he finds himself as the sole parent of his children while also trying to navigate a crucial point in his career. Plus, as I said, his ex-wife disappeared. I have read the book by Taffy Brodesser-Akner, and I'm excited to see how Jesse Eisenberg, Claire Danes, and the rest of the cast bring this story to life.

Nothing gets you into the holiday spirit more than an extremely niche exposé documentary, am I right?! Santa Camp is exactly what it sounds like — a camp to learn how to be a professional Santa Claus. However, this documentary dives into questions like what Santa looks like and how the jolly character can represent different ethnicities of children who celebrate Christmas throughout the world. The film follows three people who do not typically fit the mold of the mainstream idea of Santa and sheds light on the pushback they face for bringing diversity to Ol' St. Nick.

Looking for a break from superheroes and franchise films? Check out Breaking, a refreshingly mid-budget crime thriller starring John Boyega and the late Michael K. Williams that just dropped on streaming. It's based on the true story of Brian Brown-Easley, who held up a Wells Fargo bank in 2017 in a desperate attempt to avoid becoming homeless. The hostage situation that ensued makes for a compelling drama and both leads are fantastic. If you're a fan of human-centered bank robbery films such as Dog Day Afternoon, this one is for you. 

If you're into Anime, then you'll probably enjoy this one. It's about a Black samurai (loosely based on the real historic figure) who has retired into a more peaceful life, which revolves around his boat. But he's dragged back into drama after he begins mentoring a young girl with supernatural powers. LaKeith Stanfield stars as the voice of Yasuke in the six-episode series.

With the first season of the Disney+ series Andor coming to a close with its 12th episode, now might be a good time to revisit the introduction of the rebel spy Cassian Andor. Rogue One was somewhat overlooked as the Star Wars franchise kept cranking out spinoffs and movies in rapid succession not long ago, but it was a genuinely intense thrill ride in the mold of classic World War II films like The Dirty Dozen. The events of this prequel film lead right up to the very first film, Star Wars: A New Hope, and the critically acclaimed Andor will eventually lead to Rogue One, so definitely worth a watch.
