Derry Girls is back. Although the Irish comedy premiered its third and final season in the spring overseas, it will be making its way to the U.S. October 7 on Netflix. The show follows the lives of four Irish teens and one “wee English fella” in the late 90s during the political conflict between Ireland and Northern Ireland. If you are a fan of Bridgerton (let’s be honest, who isn’t!?), you might recognize Nicola Coughlan, the actor who portrays Penelope Featherington, as Clare Devlin in Derry Girls.

Take every teen movie trope dating back to Clueless, put them together and add a 2022 playlist and you have Do Revenge. Camile Mendez and Maya Hawke star in this colorful, pop very extra flick about two high school students who plan to get back at those who have done them truly wrong. It's a good choice if you're looking for an updated version of Mean Girls and don't want to do a lot of deep thinking while watching, which I think (I hope) is the point.

As the resident horror-head at Cheddar News, you can bet I'll be watching exclusively spooky flicks this month, and I decided to start off with a blind spot from just a few years ago. When the Netflix original film Apostle dropped on the streaming platform back in 2018, many viewers and critics weren't sure what to make of it. Director Gareth Evans was known for martial arts-driven action movies such as The Raid: Redemption, not weird horror-thrillers set in the early 20th century that follow in the tradition of folk horror classics such as The Wicker Man. That type of movie recently experienced a revival with the release of Midsommar in 2019, but Apostle beat it to the punch and should get credit for updating the moribund subgenre.
